Great flavours should never be forgotten.
My grandad travelled here from Hong Kong in 1961 and began his takeaway venture in Tottenham working in numerous restaurants and mastering his craft before moving to Gosport and opening the Silver Capital (now T&Js) with 8 other business partners in 1964. Although his legacy is now best remembered for his takeaway dishes, he was quite the baker and his cakes were the talk of the town.
In 1969, he opened his first family-ran takeaway Kamtoo, which my dad, Wai worked there from the age of 8 and took it over with my mum in 1985. Me and my sisters were the takeaway babies who lived, grew up, and worked there until it was sold in 2013.
After my parents sold Kamtoo, my dad is stopped by our old customers almost everyday when he’s out and about in Gosport telling him how they miss the food, especially the curry and ask him when he’s coming back. So that’s what has inspired this venture, I want to bring these dishes back to our old customers.
My parents have been teaching me the recipes to some of the most popular dishes which I will be selling on a pre-order basis as part of the Wai’s Original Recipe collection. I will also follow in my parent’s footsteps and add my own dishes for you to try too.
My family’s takeaway built its reputation on generous portions, top-quality ingredients, and friendly service. None of that has changed. My produce is bought fresh daily, it is never stored for days. Plus, I use heated delivery bags to ensure your food arrives hot. By staying off third-party apps, I can keep costs low while delivering the best food and a personal touch in every order.
I care about the planet as much as I care about great food. Our ingredients are locally sourced whenever possible, and I ensure zero food waste by only preparing pre-ordered meals. Our packaging is eco-friendly; fully recyclable lids, compostable bowls and bags, and wooden forks. Plus, the efficient delivery system minimises environmental impact by consolidating orders into a maximum of two trips, reducing unnecessary back-and-forth driving.

My Wai’s Original Recipe collection, named after my dad, features the classic Chinese dishes that have become synonymous with his name.
